Sleeping With Monkeys

Location:
Brazil, Amazonas Province, Palmari Community,  a short hike into the primary forest.

♫ Somewhere over the forest, way up high,
sits a treetop platform, there we will spend the nigh(t)

But how do we get up there?

Not to worry:  Gear and rope, a short lesson, and you are ready.

Really?

Up you go
    Sit
    Pull feet up
    Stand, pull harness up
Repeat 200 times

Easy to say!

Almost there...

We made it

Almost gave up

Time to enjoy the view.

A night visitor.  A porcupine seeking salt.

Did not sleep much.  Too cold.

Woke up to monkey howls, and an Amazon Sunrise

Coming down.

A zip line, then rappelle

  1. You understated the difficulty of the climb.
    It was well worth it!

  2. What was the difference in temperature between the canopy and the jungle floor?
Also, what did you sleep in? hammocks?
    Nice pics, looks super fun.

  3. Wow... you guys are true warriors. That does not look easy.
How often do tourists pass through this part of the Amazon? When was the last time the zipline had a maintenance check...? Maybe it is better to not know!

  5. Offer,
I recall that the temperature is a bit cooler, but most important, there is a breeze up there.
We slept on a foam inside a large moskito net.

    Yoav,
The canopy is used maybe once a month.
Zipline maintenance? It looked strong. Besides, the guide went first.
